About the Artist
Art is more than a hobby for Shawntay. It is a way of life and a passion that she's enjoyed for as
long as she could remember. Her work has been inspired by a cross section of music and
culture, while infusing messages of that references a multitude of social injustices that directly
impact of people of color in the United States.
Shawntay has a special place in her heart for activism. Her advocation skills, formed on a day to
day basis through her career in the medical field, are translated into her art by confronting
difficult concepts and turning them into a palatable burst of color and life in a pop art style that
attempts to tell the stories of those whose voices are normally silenced. She uses those same
skills to honor the musical heroes that have made a direct impact on her life, and the lives of
those who collect her art.
Her art has been shown in galleries around the world, from San Francisco, Dubai, to Canada and she
has participated in both her own solo shows and group shows for years. Beyond her gallery
shows, Shawntay has participated in events with local community centers, spends her free time
working with non profits, teaching paint classes to youth throughout the city.
Her dedication to her craft, her community, and her people comes through in everything she
does -- and she will continue to work with those goals in mind as she moves forward into the
next phase of her career.
